Project 1(due wk 7) Thematic: Interactivity, drawing, imaging, typography.

Create a Proce55ing program to complete project 1(size is up to you) which is continuous transforming from one drawing or image or scene or form to another. For example, from one alphabetic letter to another, transform a shape or shapes into an airplane, or transform the light and shadow of an image. These examples are basic examples; you should strive to create fresh, inventive concepts. Your transformation should evoke a response in the audience; it can be funny, thoughtful, provocative, etc. At a mininum you MUST use the change in the mouseX variable as the cursor moves left and right as a input for change, but as you have learnt this is by far NOT the only input, the mouse has buttons the keyboard has keys and numbers etc. We are more interested in GENERATIVE content. You should be more ambitious than simply displaying a set of images to simulate a video (some ways to be more ambitious might be having the animation operate differently in the reverse direction; combining these images with drawn shapes, etc.) Use your traditional design studio skills to create a draft of your ideas: look at this website Generative graphics

Typically:

1. Make paper thumbnail sketches for a couple of different ideas

2. Make refined drawings from sketches (on paper or in software)

3. Create or collect rough media elements (drawings, photographs, generative graphics, etc.)

4. Realise the sequence in code, isolate each element and add one by one

5. Refine the media elements and code Complete steps 1-3 for week 6. On that day, be prepared to explain your concept, show your sketches, and to talk about your ideas for writing the code.

6. Final presentation in class week 7

Project 2 brief due week 13

Using Arduino hardware with a simple LDR or some other variable analog input circuit and while still using Processing. Create a luminated form, which is reactive to changes in the environment, changes that could be evoked by humans or other environmental factors. There are many ways in which this could be achieved one is to simply use the Arduino hardware & the LDR circuit and modify your code to work with your earlier Processing Project. Alternatively by using Arduino & LDR circuit and write code which is then sent to processing which drive the computer screen and possibly other hardware like servo motors, LED’s etc. As summaries in the reading of extension 8.The thematic is light & luminescence. How can changes in light invoke a response or reveal something.
